The countdown is on for the official first day of summer! If you've been with me any length of time, you know that summer is the busiest season I have. So just to recap: please make sure that you schedule your private as soon as possible and be diligent on taking yourself out as soon as you know you can't make that scheduled appointment. For those of you who want a time or day that's already taken, you can put yourself on the waitlist and you should be notified when it's available.

Updates
The studio will be closed July 1 through July 4.
On July 7 the summer Mat class schedule will start. This is the first year that I will need to combined all levels into one class so that everybody can still have their private sessions. The mat class will be on Wednesday at 10 AM. Please make sure that you schedule yourself in as there as there will be no walk-ins allowed. The class can allow five people. Again, if you know that you are not going to make the class, please take yourself out of the class as soon as you know so that somebody who would like to come in can get in, if the class is full, please put yourself on the waitlist and you should be notified when there's space available. This schedule will be from July 9- August 20th.

What is in your pocket and what are you carrying on your shoulder?
When it comes to Pilates, we know that this is a corrective exercise regime so if we are trying to correct imbalances, then we need to check in with our whole-body awareness, movement and health. Are you constantly putting your phone or something in your back pocket and then sitting on your butt? When you do that, you are creating an imbalance in your pelvis which we all know that is creating an imbalanced pelvis, that creates an imbalanced spine that then creates imbalanced muscle development. Same goes for how we carry our purses or a backpack. Are you always carrying your purse on one shoulder? Do you notice that when you are holding your purse on your shoulder that you tend to lift that shoulder up to your ear? There again, we are creating an imbalance in muscle development along with the spine being torqued out of alignment. For sure when we are practicing Pilates, we are trying to find a way to create a balanced muscle development, centering, and proper posture. All of this through self-awareness, paying attention to if you have something in your back pocket while sitting when driving, sitting while eating dinner or laying in a home position. Being aware while you're carrying your purse on one shoulder, are you always carrying it on the same shoulder? When you're standing with your purse on your shoulder, are you hiking it up so that you can hold it up? When we are applying the Pilates Method to everyday life and noting that part of it is, whole body health, movement, balanced muscle development and correct posture for the spine; then we need to do a quick every day check in with how we are caring ourselves and what we might be doing that puts us out of balance. Take the stuff out of your back pockets and switch your purse to the other shoulder or maybe you can even go with a smaller one, time to time.
Have a warm and delightful summer!
Heidi
